INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indianapolis Fire Department is at the scene of a fire on the south side.

Fire crews were dispatched just before 8 a.m. to the 1000 block E. Sumner Avenue.

According to IFD, the building fire necessitated a second alarm, which was called after 8 a.m. The department investigated a report of possible entrapment but gave the "all clear" after a primary search. Crews were still battling the fire in bitter temperatures and heavy black smoke was visible at the scene.

IFD said the fire appeared to be contained to the second floor. The cause remains under investigation.
