Police looking for victim’s family in Greenwood fatal accident

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. – According to police, authorities in Johnson County responded to a fatal accident in Greenwood Friday.

Police have identified 53-year-old Indianapolis resident, Theresa Jean Shaffer, as the victim.

The accident reportedly took place at US 31 and Main St. in Greenwood around 10 p.m.

Police say a woman in her late 40’s to early 50’s was pronounced dead on the scene. They said she was witnessed walking east on Main St. wearing all dark clothes and walked directly into traffic crossing US 31.

As she crossed the lanes, she was immediately struck by a northbound 2004 Dodge Stratus. The light was green for traffic on US 31 at the time she was fatally struck. The driver and passenger of the Dodge Stratus were not injured and the driver tested negative for alcohol at the scene.
