Police at scene on April 10, 2017

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis Metropolitan police are investigating a fatal Monday morning shooting.

Officers responded around 9 a.m. to the 900 block of West 35th Street. Dispatchers confirmed a fatality and IMPD said it was investigating a homicide.

FOX59 crews found a large police presence and caution tape at the scene. Members of the Ten Point Coalition were also standing by.

Police found a teenage victim with at least one gunshot wound in an alley. He was identified as Sema J. Jordan, 15.

Police are awaiting an autopsy for identification and to learn how many times the boy was shot.

IMPD said a witness reported hearing a gunshot around 3 a.m. but didn’t call 911. They encourage residents to call whenever they hear something suspicious.

“If you hear gunshots, if you hear screeching tires, it is important that you call the police, even if you think it’s nothing. It’s better that we come out, investigative, see if there’s anything to it as opposed to later hours, when evidence could have been destroyed or not available. We can’t stress that enough,” explained IMPD Sgt. Kendale Adams.
