INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Police have arrested man in connection with a shooting that injured four people inside a downtown parking garage Saturday.

Christopher Ruffin, 25, of Indianapolis was taken in on preliminary charges.

Just after 3 a.m., an off-duty officer heard several gunshots coming from the Union Station parking garage in the 300 block of south Meridian Street. Officers responded and found three victims in their 20s and 30s suffering from gunshot wounds on the second floor.

Detectives were later able to determine a fourth victim had arrived at Community East Hospital was also connected to the shooting. All four victims’ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A good suspect description was obtained and responding officers quickly located and detained Ruffin. Officers also found a handgun inside a trash can on the second floor.

After being questioned by detectives, Ruffin was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center and processed on preliminary charges of aggravated battery, carrying a handgun without a license and invasion of privacy violations.

IMPD is working to steer off any potential problems, but according to IMPD PIO Major Richard Riddle, it is a difficult task.

“It’s a multi-faceted approach. I mean, we have to work with our bars and we have to work with the businesses down here to let us know if there’s a fight inside that may spill over to the streets, and for us to make sure that situation is diffused, instead of sending the individuals that are involved in that to the same parking garage and have a further confrontation,” he said.
