ANDERSON, Ind. – A man’s body was found in an Anderson lake early Wednesday afternoon.

Police Major Joel Sandefur says a boater found Richard Hunt, 94, in the water near the boat ramp at the north end of Shadyside Lake around 12:45 p.m.

The man’s body was retrieved from the water and the case has been turned over to the Madison County coroner to determine the cause of death.

Hunt had left an assisted living facility about a mile away from the lake before he was found there, according to police.

The Madison County coroner said contributing factors in the death were drowning and a heart attack. The coroner was not sure which happened first, and is not sure at this point if the death was accidental or a suicide.

Hunt received some sort of medical diagnosis within the past week and rejected treatment.

Officials say he left the facility on his own and had no mental conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
