INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A 19-year-old woman was killed and two others were seriously injured in a crash involving two vehicles on Indy’s north side Thursday morning.

The crash occurred around 7 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Keystone Avenue near 52nd Street.

Emergency crews had to remove the occupants of the vehicle from the car. A female passenger, identified as Jahaunnah Washington of California, died from her injuries. A 28-year-old woman driving the car was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in serious condition; a 22-year-old passenger in the backseat also suffered serious injuries. Sources said they believed the three just moved from California to Indianapolis and were living out of their car.

A police officer was nearby when the crash happened and rushed to the scene to help the victims before other emergency responders arrived. Police said the passenger was already dead by the time the officer got there.

Police said the driver of  a blue vehicle came forward after hearing about the incident in the news.

Witnesses said the vehicle may have collided with or tapped the white car, sending it into a power pole.

Even a slight tap could lead to significant damage in a case like this, investigators said. IMPD says this is still an active investigation, possible charges are not known at this time.
