CARMEL, Ind. – Dozens of police vehicles were seen in the area of Main and Old Meridian Street overnight in Carmel.

Carmel police received a report of a suicidal person in the 1200 block of West 146th Street just before 7 p.m. Police say the person had stolen a vehicle.

Officers pursued the vehicle for a short time before backing off for the safety of the community.

The suspect ended up fleeing on foot into a wooded area and was not found despite help from a SWAT team.

They repeatedly said, “We need you to surrender peacefully. We need you to come out with your hands up and walk towards the sound of my voice… This is the Carmel police department. We need you to cooperate and surrender yourself. Walk out with your hands up. We need you to walk out slowly to the sound of my voice.”

The scene cleared around 2 a.m.
