6 displaced after tree falls onto duplex on Indy’s near northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Six people have been displaced after a tree fell onto a duplex on the near northeast side.

Willie French says she's lived in the home for 40 years. She was in her bathtub when the tree hit the home.

"I didn't know if I was gonna make it or not I didn't know if I was gonna get out," French said.

The Indianapolis Fire Department says it happened in the 3300 block of Orchard Ave. around 7:29 p.m. Friday.

Crews believe the recent heavy rainfall fully saturated the ground, loosening the unhealthy tree at the roots.

IFD says a total of four adults and two children lived in the double residence. No one was reportedly injured.
