Suspects arrested in connection with Fayette County homicide

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ind. – Police arrested two people in connection with a homicide in Fayette County.

Mark A. Bennett, 18, and Rodney A. Bennett, 44, both from Connersville, were taken into custody without incident in the shooting death of Michael Shane Hamilton, 37. Mark Bennett was arrested on a murder charge. Rodney Bennett was arrested on charges of obstruction of justice and aiding in a robbery.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, the homicide happened around 12:40 a.m. Thursday at the Elephant Hill Trailer Park on West 21st Street. Police said they were looking for possibly three suspects in a red or purple Dodge Neon.

Later Thursday, police said 31-year-old Adam Frye was considered a “person of interest” in the case. However, police questioned Frye and released him Thursday night, saying he was no longer a person of interest in the case.

Fayette County schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution. School officials emphasized that there was no immediate threat to any students or schools.
