BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Authorities at Indiana University-Bloomington are investigating after a rape was reported at a dorm.

IUPD says the alleged rape involves a 19 year old female and an 18 year old male, who met on a dating app.

According to an IUPD Facebook post Tuesday,  the department received a report of rape and aggravated assault at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say the events happened last Thursday inside a Wright Quad dorm room. The post states it happened at 6:30 p.m.

Students on campus say they received an email about the report.

Junior Sophie Hogg says it is something she hears about too often and wants to see more done to educate students.

“That could have been me, that could’ve been my friends,” says Hogg.  “It’s unsettling to hear, and at the rate we hear it sometimes it’s a little alarming.”

She says she is more alert after the report.

“In a big school like this you never really know what can happen, and you just have to be on your ‘A game’ and be alert whenever you can.”

The suspect is reportedly known to IUPD, however the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on this crime is encouraged to call the IU Police Department at 812-855-4111.

You may also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
