Police identify 3 people killed during head-on crash in Howard County

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. – Three people died in a crash in Howard County Thursday afternoon.

According to the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched around 3:45 p.m. to County Road 600 West and State Road 22. Police discovered two vehicles had been involved in a head-on crash at the intersection.

Police, citing witnesses and evidence from the scene, said it appeared a red 2006 Honda CR-V was going westbound on SR 22 when it went across the center line and collided with a green 1998 Dodge Ram headed eastbound.

The driver of the Honda, Brando Wheeler, 56, Kokomo, and the driver and passenger in the Dodge, Ronald Fortner, 82, and Donald Wright, 85, died at the scene, according to the Howard County Coroner’s Office.

Police said the crash remains under investigation. Autopsies are scheduled for Saturday at Community Howard Regional Health.
