Fiery crash in Carmel leaves 2 dead; 4 officers suffer smoke inhalation

CARMEL, Ind. – A woman and man were killed Monday in a crash in Carmel that resulted in a car fire.

The incident occurred before 11 a.m. near Ditch Road and Queens Way, south of 116th Street. The vehicle was going north on Ditch and overcorrected before slamming into trees.

Lifeline was called to the scene, but disregarded after both people inside the car were extricated. They were taken to the hospital via ambulance.

Officials say the 75-year-old passenger, Jeanne K. Feasel, died at St. Vincent Hospital, and the 76-year-old driver, William J. Feasel, was taken to Eskenazi Health in critical condition.

On Wednesday, Carmel police confirmed Feasel had died from his injuries.

Four officers were transported to be checked for smoke inhalation.

Ditch Road between 116th Street and 106th Street was closed for several hours while the accident was investigated.

Police say speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.
