Man killed when several cars caught fire in Hancock County pole barn

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. – A man was killed in a pole barn fire in Hancock County Monday morning.

Investigators identified the man as William Parker Jr. Fire crews were dispatched to the scene around 6 a.m. The barn was engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Fire crews found Parker’s body partially under a vehicle around 7 a.m. Parker’s girlfriend told police that he had been living with her and was working on her vehicle’s brakes overnight.

When she went to bed, the vehicle was up on a jack while Parker was working underneath. She went to bed around 2 a.m.; a few hours later, a neighbor knocked on the door to tell her the barn was on fire.

The Buck Creek Fire Department is investigating the fire along with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
