INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A 4-year-old girl is in stable condition after suffering a graze wound to the hand.
The child was transported to Eskenazi Hospital around 7 a.m. after what police believe was a random shooting at Villa Del Sol apartments near 38th Street and North High School Road.
Multiple shots were fired into an apartment and IMPD says at least one of them came through the wall of the neighbor's apartment. There was a man sitting outside the door of that apartment. Police have not said how he is connected.
Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the hospital to investigate.
Police said the situation is "contained" but would not say if they are searching for anyone. Investigators said the public is not in danger.
The 4-year-old's mom said they were sleeping at the time.
"I was scared. I was scared and shaking I was really shaking. When I drove to the hospital, I was still shaking," said the mom. She did not want to show her face during an interview with FOX59.
The mom said she did not hear any gun shots. She woke up to stuff falling off the wall. She believes her 5-year-old son also in the bed with them just missed the bullet.
"I am sure he would have been gone because it would have hit him on the head. It was directly by the his side, directly by his side. Thank god he was able to move away. You know he was sleeping and rolling around," she said.
