Man fatally shot in vehicle on Indy’s near east side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A man has died after being shot early Sunday morning on the near east side of Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department

At approximately 2:30 a.m., police responded to the call of a person shot near the intersection of English Avenue and Laurel Street.

Authorities say a man was sitting inside a vehicle when a gunman shot him at least once. A passenger in the vehicle attempted to drive the victim to the hospital, but police asked them to pull over in order to provide aid. EMS personnel attempted to perform life-saving measures on the victim, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim’s identity has not been released, as next of kin is yet to be notified.

An investigation is underway, but police said they believe this to be an isolated incident at this time.
