IMPD chases apparent stolen car; juvenile driver and passengers crash into water-filled ditch

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Three people are under arrest, including two juveniles, after police tell us they led officers on a chase and crashed into a ditch.

The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. near West 16th Street and Tibbs Avenue on Indy’s near west side.

IMPD tells us an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle, so the officer ran the plate and it was a stolen car out of Hendricks County.

The officer tried to stop the car, but IMPD says the driver sped off. A chase ensued, and it lasted about three and a half miles. It ended when the driver failed to make a turn from westbound 10th Street onto Speedway Woods Drive, and the car crashed into a water-filled ditch.

There were three males inside the car. Two of the males, including the driver, were juveniles.

The driver fled from the car after the crash, but police took him into custody a short time later.

All three people in the car were taken to the hospital.

Police say the driver faces possible charges of auto theft, resisting arrest while fleeing in a vehicle, and resisting arrest while fleeing on foot. The other occupants could face similar charges.
