Alyssa Andrews meteorologist

Hello! My name is Alyssa Andrews, and I’m so happy to be a meteorologist at FOX59 and CBS4. You can catch my regular forecasts every Saturday and Sunday night at 6 & 11 p.m. on CBS4.

This is a familiar news station for me, as I interned at FOX59 with Sports Director Chris Hagan. I helped cover our local college teams, Indy 500, Pacers, and many more throughout college.

Growing up in Greenwood makes me partial to the south side. I’m a proud Center Grove Trojan — like many family members before me. During my undergraduate studies at Indiana University-Bloomington, I went back on some Friday nights to report sideline for CG Football games for the Center Grove Sports Network. As a senior at IU, I coached the CG High School cheer squad. It was a lot of fun coaching a team I used to be on!

I graduated with a B.A. in Telecommunications with a double emphasis in Industry & Management, and Design & Production. In addition to my telecom degree, I created a major called ‘Social Media Journalism’ through the Individualized Major Program. For this major, I combined journalism, communications, marketing, and independent study courses. I remained active in several student organizations all 4 years at Indiana. My favorite board to serve on was Women in Technology. I covered school sports on IUSTV, blogged for ‘We Are IU,’ and was active in student political organizations.

About a year after graduation, I continued my education at Mississippi State University for a master’s degree in meteorology. I became a member of the Gamma Theta Upsilon honor society in geography by maintaining a 4.0 in meteorology. While at MSU, I conducted research on the relationship between weather and mood. I’m always interested in how weather affects our lives, and I enjoy studying it on an interpersonal level. Please ask about my research if you’re ever curious — I’d love to share more with you!

My broadcast career began as a sideline reporter for Indiana’s Big Ten Network student crew during undergrad. I then worked for IU Athletics, covering men’s basketball and football in the marketing department as an online reporter. I loved radio broadcasting and interned at Indy’s ESPN radio affiliate with JMV my freshman year. After college, I became a reporter at WTWO-TV in Terre Haute, covering everything from politics, to sports, to weather.

WTWO had me fill in for the weather department one day, and I loved it so much that I went back to school to become a meteorologist! Before returning back home to Indiana, I was the weekday morning meteorologist at ABC-36 in Lexington, Ky. for close to 3 years.

As a Midwest meteorologist, I have experience covering all types of weather. My favorite weather to forecast is winter storms. When I’m not forecasting, I’m usually playing Call of Duty or Fortnite with friends and family. I also spend a lot of time at the dog park with my sassy pup, Lexi.

I love Hoosier sports! I’m a gigantic Colts, Pacers, and race fan. I’ve even covered many of their games and events, back when I was a sports reporter. Now that I’m home, I’ll be going to as many IU football and basketball games as possible! GO INDIANA EVERYTHING!
