    HOWARD COUNTY, Indiana — Police in Howard County are investigating an apparent murder suicide after a double shooting in a Russiaville home. Dispatchers say Monica Newlin called police from her home just before 8 p.m., to report that her husband Anthony Newlin was upset and had locked himself in the bedroom with a gun.   • Water main break blocks Kessler Blvd. on north side

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 10, 2015) — A water main break flooded Kessler Boulevard at N. Meridian Street early Saturday morning.  The area between Meridian and Illinois streets was blocked off to traffic while repairs were being made. Citizens Energy said weather coupled with aging infrastructure caused the main break. The main was installed in 1960. As of 6 a.m. Saturday, the area was still blocked off and there was no estimation as to when it would be reopened.

  • Firefighters battle flames at near southwest side factory

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 10, 2015) — Flames erupted at a near southwest side business late Friday night. Firefighters were called to  OmniSource Corporation in the 2200 block of S. Holt Road just before 11:30 p.m. Crews from Wayne Township, the Indianapolis Fire Department and Decatur Township all helped battle the fire in the plant’s shredder building. They found a large fire burning within the scrap metal shredder.     LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Jan. 4, 2015) — Lafayette police make two arrests in connection with a murder discovered on Christmas Day. A man was killed and left in the 3300 block of US 52 South, where the body was found on December 25, 2014. Now, after an extensive investigation, the Lafayette Police Department has arrested William A. Paz for murder.   • IFD fight flames at vacant home on near east side

       Indianapolis, IND. (Jan. 3, 2015) — A vacant home under renovation burned early Saturday morning on the near east side. Firefighters got the call to the double residence in the 100 block of South State Street, near Southeastern Avenue around 1:30 a.m. They were able to get the flames under control in about 20 minutes. No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
