FRANKLIN, Ind. — A crash involving two vehicles claimed the lives of both drivers Monday night on U.S. 31 in Johnson County.

Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department were called around 9:20 p.m. Monday to an area of U.S. 31 north of State Road 252 for a serious vehicle accident.

Upon arrival to the area, which is near Franklin, authorities found two vehicles that had collided with each other in the northbound lanes of U.S. 31.

The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Johnson County Coroner’s Office identified them Tuesday as 30-year-old Olivia Irene Humes and 42-year-old Charles Dell Cobb.

Police say Humes’ Jeep Commander was going the wrong way in the northbound lanes and collided with a Krispy Kreme truck driven by Cobb. According to the crash report, a witness told police the Jeep hit the truck head-on, leading both vehicles to catch fire.

The north and southbound lanes closed so police could investigate the scene and reconstruct the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
