WINCHESTER, Ind. — A Winchester man is under arrest after a 36-year-old woman was found shot to death on the front lawn of a Short Street home on Sunday.

Larry Planck III, 25, faces one count of murder and is being held at the Randolph County Jail.

According to Indiana State Police, police were called to the 600 block of E. Short Street at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sunday on report of a shooting.

Police said Isabel Hernandez was found laying on the front lawn with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne where she was pronounced dead by medical staff.

Winchester police detained three individuals who were transported to a police station for questioning.

According to court documents, Planck claimed that Hernandez kicked open the front door and entered the home with a gun, leading him to shoot her in the chest. But Planck’s story didn’t add up with what another witness told police.

The witness told police he heard arguing followed by a gunshot sometime later.

Police also noted that there was no signs of forced entry at the door nor any sign of damage. A gun wasn’t reported to be found near the victim, either.

Court documents reveal that Planck and Hernandez had recently been in a relationship. Hernandez had reportedly told Planck’s mother that she was pregnant with his child. Planck denied knowing this, despite his own mother telling police she had told him about the reported pregnancy, court documents state.

Police said messages between Planck’s mother and Hernandez also allege to possible abuse at the hands of Planck toward Hernandez.

If convicted of murder, Planck can face between 45 and 65 years in prison or even be sentenced to life without parole.
