GREENWOOD, Ind. — A man is dead after a concrete box fell from a crane at a Greenwood construction site, hitting the victim.

Greenwood Police officers were called around 3 p.m. to the 500 block of S. Madison Avenue for an original call of a “trench rescue”.

Upon arrival to the intersection of Orchard Lane and Madison Avenue, GPD officers found that a concrete box had fallen from a crane at a construction site.

The fallen box struck a man, later identified as 53-year-old Larry S. Stinson, who was taken to Eskenazi Hospital.

Around 4:30 p.m., Greenwood Police confirmed that Stinson had been pronounced dead at the hospital. On Monday, Dec. 19, the Marion County Coroner’s Office said Stinson’s cause of death was blunt force trauma and his death was ruled an accident.

GPD also confirmed around 7:45 p.m. Friday that both police and OSHA are investigating the incident and that the excavator operator has submitted to a breathalyzer test and blood sample.
