FLORA, Ind. – The note was brief but the sentiments spoke volumes.
An injured Carroll County sheriff’s deputy wrote a thank you note to the man he credits with saving his life.
Deputy Drew Yoder is recovering after an early Monday morning fire in Flora that killed four children. He and Josh Disinger, an officer with the Flora Police Department, were injured while trying to rescue the children, who were trapped inside the burning home.
Yoder, who suffered burns to his hands and forehead in addition to smoke inhalation, credits Disinger with pulling him out of the fire. The deputy was airlifted to a hospital and is recovering from his injuries. Disinger was discharged from a hospital Monday night after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Disinger shared a note he received from Yoder on Facebook. The handwritten note simply said, “U saved my life Josh.”
Disinger posted about the note on Facebook Tuesday night, saying:
Drew wrote this to me today. It means far more to me than any plaque or award I have received in my life. And I will cherish it as such!
The early Monday morning fire at a home on Columbia Street in Flora killed four sisters: Kionnie Precious Welch, 5; Kerriele Danyell McDonald, 7; Kayara Janell Phillips, 9; and Keyana Latrice Davis, 11. The community gathered for a prayer vigil Tuesday night to remember the girls.
Their mother, Gaylin Rose, was airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital. Hospital officials confirmed Rose was released from the hospital Wednesday.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, according to the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
