FOX59 is teaming-up with Viking Lamb to start a movement and “Pay it Forward” in our community.
We’re also highlighting local businesses that go the extra mile to help others, like Joe’s Butcher Shop and Fish Market in Carmel. The owner, Joe Lazzara, says he only buys proteins from farmers who raise their animals without any hormones or antibiotics, and says they also have a mission to serve the community. One of the ways they give back is by donating to the food pantry at the Merciful H.E.L.P Center at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
“We love supporting local churches and synagogues in our community and we want to support charities that help the homeless and those less fortunate than us,” Lazzara said.
“We provide everything from frozen ground beef to purchasing large quantities of can goods with our grocery discount and then volunteers at times when the center needs it,” Lazzara said.
“If we don’t have beans, he finds us a way to get dried beans” said Jayne Slaton, Director of the Merciful H.E.L.P Center.
“Without small businesses like Joe’s Butcher Shop, we wouldn’t survive,” Slaton said.
Besides the food pantry, the Merciful H.E.L.P Center helps people get back on their feet in a number of ways. Joe and his family are also volunteering during their “Tools for Schools” program at the end of July. For more information, click here.
