INDIANAPOLIS, Ind (December 17, 2015)–The long-awaited premiere of “Star Wars-The Force Awakens” is officially on Friday. But there are some theaters offering showings of the movie Thursday.
The movie has brought world-wide hype and law enforcement is encouraging movie-goers to be vigilant. Officials say they do not have any threats against theaters or movie-goers for this week’s premiere. But they say many people will be showing up in costume which means you should remain even more vigilant and observant of your surroundings.
Theaters have not reached out to law enforcement for security assistance, but many theaters already have their own systems in place.
“What you do see is officers working in some sort of off-duty capacity to aid in some security assessments in that regard,” said IMPD Officer Christopher Wilburn. “We’ve had a very clean and very up front relationship with our businesses and we’ve had a very clean and up front relationship with movie-goers. We aren’t anticipating any specific threats.”
AMC Theaters also released this statement:
“Ensuring the safety of guests and associates is AMC’s top priority. Working with law enforcement we have a number of security protocols at all of our theaters. To help preserve that safety, we do not discuss specifics.”
