Spring has sprung around central Indiana, but if you don’t want to spring for entertainment, there are dozens of events to pick from and many are free.
Starting this weekend, there’s Italian Street Festival off East Street in Indianapolis. It’s a fan favorite.
“There are 25 different Italian meats, cheeses and desserts at this festival. Tickets start from $1 and most food prices are $3 to $5. You will also notice plenty of music, rides and pretty much something for the whole family,” said Amanda Dorman, communications manager for DowntownIndy.org.
Also this weekend, there’s the Talbot Street Art Fair. Saturday and Sunday you can check out the work of 270 artists coming to Indianapolis. It’s a free festival where you can walk up and down Talbot Street, with plenty of food and music available.
If you want to do a little grooving, go to Easley Winery. They have 20 to 25 wines, with a brand-new Sangria. They also have “Groovin’ in the Garden.” It happens on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 5p.m., weather permitting.
“We encourage people to get here early, bring your own chair, go inside, grab a bottle to drink or by the glass, and come out here and enjoy,” said Kimberly Utterback, marketing manager for Easley Winery.
Every Thursday night through July you’ll find “Concerts on the Canal” in downtown Indianapolis. They bring in a variety of performers, under a beautiful setting on the canal.
“We kind of mix it up. We do a little Motown, love songs and jazz standards, so every week will be different,” said Natalie Palmer, senior director of guest services for Canal Days.
If you watch and listen from the grass next to the canal, it’s free. Tables on the canal are $5 per person.
You’ll also find several events at American Legion Mall for Circle City Pride.
“This is Indiana’s largest LGBT festival, with many vendors, and tons of music. There are drag shows, and really everything can happen on this day. There’s also the Cadillac Barbie parade that morning, that you don’t want to miss,” said Dorman.
