A local mother of four strolls through a supermarket aisle with a game plan to save big, and she said it all starts with preparation.

“I start by creating a meal plan each week,” said Briana Carter. “I look at the weekly circulars and figure out what fits and what to possibly rearrange to go with what’s on sale.

“It’s all about flexibility.”

On her website BargainBriana.com, Carter blogs about ways she saves while grocery shopping.

Carter said her personal preference is to shop mainly at one store and save on gas money. Her choice is Aldi, because she likes the great deals on produce.

“We have cantaloupe at $1.49.  That’s a really good deal for this time of year,” said Maria Straub, district manager of Aldi. “And then baby carrots are only 59 cents. You can’t beat that.”

Carter said she also prefers Aldi because of a money back guarantee.

“If you are not 100 percent satisfied, we will replace the item and refund your money,” said Don Hudock with Aldi.

Under the “Money Saving” tab on Carter’s blog, you’ll find the “Hot Deals”.  You can also discover the “Daily Deal Sites Freebies” and items that are only good in Indiana.  There’s also an “Online Coupon Code Database”.

“I do weekly coupon matches for all the local stores in our area as well as the produce picks,” said Carter.

You can also get the great grocery savings with the ‘Savings Nation’ app.

“It’s linked on my page, or in your App store,” said Carter. “It’s good for Meijer, Aldi, Kroger, CVS and Walgreens.”

Another tip is to follow the sale trends.  If there are deep discounts on something, don’t wait, and don’t be afraid to stock up and strike when the iron is hot.
