UPDATE (Sept. 25, 2019) — State police say this is now a homicide investigation.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indiana State Police are investigating a two vehicle accident on Interstate 70 which has resulted in the death of one person.

The accident occurred on the westbound side of I-70 just after Post Road, between German Church and Mitthoeffer roads, at 7:23 p.m. on Saturday night.

Investigators believe the vehicle driven by the deceased swerved into the path of another vehicle causing a collision with heavy damage to both involved vehicles.

Police say the deceased was not wearing a seat-belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second driver involved in the accident was transported to Eskenazi Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of both involved parties is  being withheld at this time pending further investigation and family notification.

The left two lanes of I-70 were temporarily closed while the crash was being investigated and the wreckage removed.

Police say at this time alcohol is possibly a factor in the crash.
