SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – An 11-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital after having an unknown medical episode on a ride at a Shelbyville festival Friday.

Police say it happened shortly after 8 p.m. on the “Zipper” at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

The ride operator heard the boy screaming and immediately stopped the ride. When he opened the door to help the boy, police say the boy fell a couple of feet out of the ride.

The boy was transferred by ambulance to a local hospital, where a Lifeline helicopter was waiting to fly him to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.

The condition of the boy is unknown at this time.

Per policy, the ride has been shut down and is under inspection, though an early investigation indicates that this was medical issue only.

The festival is still happening and wraps up Saturday night.
