INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two people died after a shooting on the east side of Indianapolis Friday morning.

Officers were called to the 900 block of North Oxford Street just before 6 a.m., according to dispatchers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Two men were shot and killed; one was found in the street and the other in a nearby vehicle.

“Basically we got a call of subjects in the street right over here on Oxford, 900 North Oxford,” said Sgt. Frank Wooten with IMPD. “When officers arrived, they did find the deceased in the street and one in the vehicle. Appeared to be two black males, both suffering from gunshot wounds.”

Investigators didn’t find any shell casings in the area.

The victims were identified as Kendall Howell, 26, and Kevin Sargent, 48.

Policer did find casings a few blocks away in the 1200 block of North Oxford Street. Police had received a call about shots fired in that area earlier. Investigators believe the two crime scenes are connected although they cautioned that the investigation was in its early stages.

Officers have recovered a handgun.
