INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Four people, including two firefighters, were sent to the hospital after a crash closed multiple lanes of southbound I-65 near Washington Street Tuesday afternoon.
Officials with the Indianapolis Fire Department say a dump truck rear-ended a semi that had slowed down due to another accident, entrapping a 21-year-old man and a 25-year-old man in their truck.
When IFD crews arrived around 3:30, they quickly began working to free the men from the truck. With cooperation from the semi driver, who was not injured, crews were able to free the men. They were then transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.
Officials say two firefighters also suffered “slight injuries.” One suffered a cut to their hand and another suffered a cut to their head. Both were taken to Methodist Hospital to get stitches and were then sent home. They will return to duty after a re-evaluation and release by physicians.
