Police identify victim of fatal overnight shooting, investigate second shooting during robbery

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Police say one person is dead and two others are injured after two separate early morning shootings.

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of North Chester Avenue just before 12:30 a.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they say they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the backyard of a residence. Officials pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Police identified him as 23-year-old Antony Walker.

According to officers, it appears the shooting happened as the result of some sort of altercation inside the house at this address. Police say they found another man connected to the shooting just east of the scene on Grant Street. Officers say he was not shot, but was injured during the altercation.

The second shooting of the morning happened near the intersection of 38th Street and Eagle Creek Parkway around 2 a.m.

Officers responded to the 7100 block of Whitetail Lane on reports of a robbery. Officers say the victim told them five men tried to rob him while he was walking home. The victim told police he was shot in the lower leg with a shotgun while trying to flee.

Police say the victim was transported to IU Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
