INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after a shooting left two injured on the city’s near west side.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred around 8:15 p.m. with officers responding to the 1900 block of W. Washington Street, near the intersection of Washington and Belmont.
According to IMPD’s Capt. Mike Leepper, officers arrived on scene and found an adult male laying in the roadway at Washington and Traub suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. A second man with similar injuries was located in a nearby business.
“At this time we have reason to believe it occurred, or possibly occurred, in 1926 W Washington St in the apartment building there,” said Capt. Leeper. “That’s at least based on the preliminary investigation that we know at this time.”
On scene, Capt. Leeper said it is still unclear whether the two gunshot victims were shooting at one another, or a suspect is still at large.
IMPD said both individuals were transported to the hospital in stable condition.
“Both individuals are in stable condition so we expect to gain more information here in the very near future,” said Capt. Leeper. “Again we don’t know whether or not, that based off the preliminary investigation, if there was a third party involved in this or if these two individuals were possibly involved in a gunfire with one another.”
No further information has been released as the investigation is still active and ongoing.
