HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. – Rescuers successfully extricated seven overdue cavers from an underground cavern in southern Indiana early Monday morning.
According to the Indiana DNR, a group of seven experienced cavers were conducting a survey of Binkley’s Cave in Harrison County when they failed to exit early Sunday morning as expected after a 15 hour trip.
Rescuers had difficulty locating the cavers due to high water levels.
They successfully extricated two cavers at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday and the remaining five cavers at 3 a.m. Monday morning.
All were treated at the cave entrance for hypothermia and exposure.
Binkley’s Cave is near Corydon in Harrison County. In addition to local law enforcement and EMS personnel, members of the National Cave Rescue Commission and National Speleological Society participated in the recovery effort.
