HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. - More than 800 new jobs headed to Hancock County. We’ve learned Amazon plans to open an operations facility. It’s a major economic announcement that not only will impact that community, but those who surround it.

Jayne Hoadley thinks Amazon’s plan to invest in her community is as sweet as the chocolate in her store.

“What business owner wouldn’t love 800 people to have exposure to their business?” Hoadley added.

Her business is only 15 minutes away from the newly announced e-commerce fulfillment center and distribution facility for amazon.

“We were designated as a stellar community along with Fortville, so this just dove tails right into the city growing and getting grants for different things,” said Hoadley.

The ‘Mount Comfort Logistics Center Building I’ which eventually will be the operations center is a 660,000 square-foot industrial building Ambrose Property Group is developing in the Mount Comfort Corridor in Hancock County. It’s located on West County Road 300 North.

“We always need more capital investment and we always need more jobs,” said Randy Sorrell, the Executive Director of Hancock County’s Economic Development Council.

He says discussions with Ambrose Property Group have been on-going for month and this announcement is something he’s been waiting for.

“Amazon is a world-class company; everyone knows who they are, and the thinking also is that when they come others will follow,” said Sorrell.

"We are pleased with the upcoming delivery of our first building at Mount Comfort Logistics Center, and we are excited about the potential for job growth for the community,” said Scott Sanders, vice president of development for Ambrose Property Group." Ambrose is entirely focused on e-commerce and industrial development, both in Indianapolis and nationally and Mount Comfort Logistics Center aligns with our vision and business strategy."

Ambrose Property Group added that their company is grateful for the partnership of the Hancock County Economic Development Council and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

Full-time employees of the new center will make a $15 dollar minimum wage, along with benefits. In a statement Amazon shared their excitement for the continued investment in Indiana.

"Amazon is excited to announce our continued investment in Indiana with a new operations facility in Greenfield. More than 800 new, fulltime employees will receive and ship products to other Amazon fulfillment centers in the network. On top of Amazon’s $15 minimum wage, the company offers full-time employees comprehensive benefits including full medical, vision, and dental insurance, and 401(k) with 50 percent match, all starting on day one. The company also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families," said Owen Torress the Regional Manager, External Communications for Amazon Operations.

“Access to labor is a big part of all of these companies decisions, the fact we have 1.2 million workers in a 45 minute commute of here,” Sorrell added, “So the ability to get workers is a very big deal and we have surplus and a resource.”

The construction on the building will be complete this summer. There’s no word on when Amazon plans to open and hire employees.

“This is a growing area, we’re close to Marion County, we’re close to Indianapolis, we’re right off of the interstate, easy transportation, large workforce,” said Sorrell.

Adding more opportunities and giving small businesses, like Hoadley’s hope for the future.

“It can only help our business,” said Hoadley.

Ambrose Property group is planning four other building around the Amazon center that will vary in size and attract other businesses. According to the company, the Mount Comfort area is experiencing rapid growth. It has an extremely strong labor market with over 276,000 households within a 25-minute commute.
