An Anderson church is blaming the recession for its troubles.

The Madison Park Church of God on Scatterfield Road has filed for bankruptcy.

Back in 2007, they bought a 200-acre site near Interstate 69.

They built a church using three bridge loans, but one loan couldn’t be repaid because the church was unable to sell some of the real estate.

According to court filings, the church is $10 million in debt.

Roughly three thousand families attend Madison Park Church.
