FISHERS, Ind. — Two people are dead after a crash on I-69 near 106th Street Wednesday.

The Indiana State Police said the crash happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on I-69 southbound. When a trooper arrived, he found two unresponsive victims in a vehicle, but was unable to access the vehicle to render aid.

The Fishers Fire Department responded to the scene and was able to extricate both victims. However, despite life saving efforts, both people inside the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation into the crash indicates the driver swerved to avoid shredded tire debris and lost control. The vehicle spun into the path of a semi, which hit the vehicle on the driver’s side.

The driver of the semi was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

All lanes of I-69 were closed while police investigated and cleaned up the scene. The road was still closed as of 10 p.m.
