INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 19, 2014)– Police and SWAT officers were on the scene where a man has barricaded himself inside a home.
Officers responded to a home in the 1200 block of North Oxford Street around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived they made contact with a man who had barricaded himself in a bedroom and refused to come out. Police say the man was suicidal.
The man repeatedly threatened to shoot officers who were trying to talk him into getting help. As they trying to get him to surrender, the officers heard what sounded like a shotgun blast.
The officers were hit with debris and saw a hole in the door. It was later learned that the man hit the door with an axe. No officers were injured.
The officers backed out of the house and called for SWAT officers. Negotiations started immediately using a public address system, however the man did not respond.
SWAT then introduce chemical agents into the house, also with no success. SWAT then entered the house and at around 9:30 p.m., and took the man into custody without injury.
