FRANKLIN, Ind. (Oct. 20, 2014)— A community came together over the weekend for a benefit held in honor of the survivor of a swimming accident that killed two of her classmates.

Sarah McLevish, 16, continues to recover at home after the June 6 incident at Big Blue River in Edinburgh, Ind.

Investigators said McLevish was swept away in the water near the dam. Her two friends and Franklin Community High School classmates—Michael Chadbourne and Jason Moran—died while attempting to save her.

The Johnson County Shrine Club hosted the riding event in Franklin over the weekend. The proceeds will go towards McLevish’s recovery and to help the family buy a wheelchair van.

One rider said the event shows the continuing support for the Franklin community.

"I mean it's amazing,” said rider Nicole Massengale. “Even total strangers are pouring out their support. Even if they can't make it we've had people donate stuff for the auctions."

If you couldn’t make it to the benefit, you can still donate on the “When Sarah Smiles” Facebook page.
