Bicyclist dies after being hit by vehicle in Delaware County

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. – Authorities are investigating after a bicyclist was killed in a crash in Yorktown Wednesday.

The crash, involving a vehicle and bicycle, happened on Jackson Street near Delaware County Road 725-W.

A witness to the incident told the Muncie Star Press that the driver of a red Toyota Prius hit the cyclist from behind, flipping the rider “head over heels” over the car. The rider reportedly landed on the side of the road after hitting and breaking open a utility pole box about 10 feet above the pavement.

The bicyclist, who has not been identified by authorities, was wearing a helmet, according to the witness.
