INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A body was found near the Indianapolis Zoo Wednesday afternoon in White River.

First responders gathered in the 1400 block of West Washington Street on the city’s west side to investigate.

A witness who saw the body floating in the river spoke about the incident.

“We were walking by because we wanted to see the river and my dad had something to see and he saw like part of the head but it started moving and so we were walking down and we found it was a body,” said Alina Mendez. “He had something blue on him, and we was just worried because we didn’t know if it was a body or not and so we saw closer and closer and it was a body, so it was kind of scary because I never saw a dead body in my life.”

IMPD says at this time it’s considered a death investigation. It’s too early to know if there was any foul play. Officers commended the witnesses for calling 911 immediately after the discovery.

The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Brian Hamilton. His cause and manner of death are pending.
