INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) says a body was found near White River late Friday morning.

Officers were called to the 2600 block of North White River Parkway just before noon. An 18-year-old African-American man, identified as Shane Watford, was found dead on the banks of the river by people who were about to go fishing.

IMPD said they are investigating this as a possible homicide. The police report indicated a firearm may have been used.

No suspect information is available at this time.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477(TIPS).

Just a few weeks ago, on April 17, police found a torso in the river. The head and arms appeared to be cleanly severed from the torso, and the legs were cut off below the knees. Police are still investigating that case and have not yet ruled it a homicide. The victim in that case was identified as 44-year-old James Rice.
