Investigators still need help with information about a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman who was walking home from church.

Investigators from the Boone County FACT team and detectives said public assistance has helped them identify two of the three vehicles near the scene just before the crash that killed 78-year-old Anita Wernsing of Fayette. Police still need information about a third vehicle. They’re looking for a dark-colored SUV that was seen turning west onto CR700S following the crash.

Wernsing was walking from Mt. Tabor Primitive Church on State Road 267 to her home across the street Sunday when a vehicle hit her and left the scene.

Evidence technicians delivered vehicle parts from the site to the Indiana State Police lab Thursday afternoon. The lab will see if any additional information can be gleaned from those parts.

Anyone with information should call the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at 765-482-1412 or send an email to
