JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind.—A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to an Indianapolis children’s hospital after he was shot in the head by his older brother.
Deputies with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a home in Sand Creek Township near CR 1000 North at approximately 11:37 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, they found the 12-year-old boy unresponsive.
Det. Sgt. Jim Blevins reported the family was shooting firearms earlier in the day. He stated the 16-year-old brother was handling a .22-caliber rifle when it discharged, striking his 12-year-old brother in the head. Authorities said other family members were asleep in the home when the incident occurred.
The boy was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. His condition is unknown at this time.
