BROAD RIPPLE, Ind. (Oct. 22, 2015) – Police say three men robbed Binkley’s Kitchen & Bar at gunpoint in the Broad Ripple area just after 11 p.m. Wednesday.
According to police, three black males wearing hoodies and bandannas entered through the front door armed with guns and announced that they were robbing the business.
The robbers instructed customers to get down on the ground before taking off with money.
Police say no one was injured, but one person was complaining of chest pain. Medics treated that person on-site and they were released shortly after.
“It’s shocking because it’s very intrusive. It’s not the normal car break-ins or petty crime, it’s very invasive,” said Megan Hanna.
Hanna manages an interior design store called Haus Love next to Binkley’s. She’s been in Broad Ripple for more than a decade and says the robbery is scary, but shouldn’t reflect poorly on the neighborhood.
“It happens everywhere,” said Hanna. “It happens in Carmel and downtown. So it is everywhere and it’s just about being careful.”
“This could happen in any neighborhood and at any neighborhood restaurant,” said Broad Ripple Village Association President Elizabeth Marshall.
Marshall says overall this summer the streets of Broad Ripple have seen a drop in crime, thanks to teamwork with the IMPD.
“We’ve had an amazing summer with respect to public safety,” said Marshall. “We’ve had great partnership with the IMPD. They’ve increased policing during our peak hours.”
“I love the people and I love the neighborhood,” said Hanna. “I’ve never felt unsafe.”
Police do not have any suspects in custody at this time and are not sure how much money was stolen during the robbery.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
