BROWNSBURG, Ind. (October 26, 2014) — A man is under arrest after police say he flew across the country to abduct his non-custodial daughter.

Officials say 58-year-old Garland Bannister flew into Dayton, Ohio, rented a car, then took 3-year-old Chloe Bannister from her home just before 5 p.m. Saturday. Bannister then headed west on I-70. Ohio officials issued an Amber Alert shortly after.

Brownsburg police say they received a tip Saturday night that Bannister’s car was seen outside the garden center at the city’s Walmart. When officers arrived, they spotted him standing outside his car, talking on his cell phone. They approached, and arrested Bannister without incident. The child was taken into care by Hendricks County DCS, where she remains Sunday.

Bannister is booked into the Hendricks County Jail on abduction charges. It is not known when he will be extradited.
