Burglary leads to police chase and crash

A Lafayette homeowner noticed after coming home just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, that their home had been burglariezed and a firearm was missing.

The homeowner gave police the name of someone they believe may be the suspect.

A short time later, Lafayette police were called to the area of Sagamore Parkway and South St. about a suspect in a vehicle was pointing a gun at someone else in the vehicle.

When police got to the scene they saw the suspect vehicle flea the area.

Police followed the vehicle north on I-65 and then exited onto State Road 43, where police attempted to pull the vehicle over but the vehicle fled northbound again.

Lafayette police cashed the suspect vehicle to the area just south of the town of Brookston, where the car crashed.

Witnesses reported that a passenger fled the scene of the accident.

A female passenger was transported to Lafayette hospital and a male subject had to be transported by lifeline to an Indianapolis hospital, both were transported with unknown injuries.

Police found a firearm matching the description of the one that had been stolen from the home in Lafayette in the vehicle.

The names of the crash victims are not being released at this time.
