Carmel parents charged with child neglect after malnourished runaway son is located

On May 23, 2018, a jury found Brandee Johnson guilty of neglect of a dependent and neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury. On June 27, a judge sentenced her to 4 years in the Department of Correction, with 2 years suspended to probation. In addition, she was sentenced 2 years in the county jail, with the sentence suspended to probation. The sentences will be served consecutively.


CARMEL, Ind.– Carmel police announced Tuesday that a mother and father were arrested on child neglect charges after an investigation.

On August 24, a 14-year-old male runaway was located. The boy was hospitalized and police determined he was malnourished and had injuries consistent with child abuse.

Police later interviewed the boy’s five siblings. One of them, age 13, was also hospitalized for being physically injured and malnourished.

All six children were placed in protective custody through the Indiana Department of Child Services.

On August 30, Quantae Johnson, 40, and Brandee Johnson, 42, were arrested on two felony counts of child neglect and one count of obstruction of justice. Both were transported to the Hamilton County jail on $25,000 bond.
