PLAINFIELD, Ind.– The Hendricks County prosecutor said the death of a 16-month-old toddler remains under investigation.
The child was found unresponsive at her babysitter’s Plainfield home on August 8 and died three days later.
Prosecutor Patricia Baldwin originally told FOX59 that no charges were anticipated in the case. However, Baldwin later said she was mistaken and had a different case in mind when she said that. The day care death remains an active investigation, she said.
The coroner’s office is still working to determine the cause of death. However, the Department of Child Services says the in-home day care was operating illegally.
The woman in charge had previously been told to stop, or get licensed with the state.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story said charges were not anticipated in the case, but the prosecutor told FOX59 she’d misspoken.
