CHICAGO (April 7, 2014) – An off-duty TSA agent who saved a woman’s life says he was just doing his job.
Eddie Palacios was headed to O’Hare International Airport on Wednesday when he noticed commotion on the other side of the Blue Line platform at Chicago Avenue. A woman had fallen off the platform. Palacios jumped down and frantically waved an orange sweatshirt to get an oncoming train to stop.
“All I heard was somebody yell, ‘She fell! She fell!’ And the train was coming,” Palacios recalled. “I realized I had an orange sweatshirt on, and I said, ‘OK, the train is far enough for me to jump down into the tracks, wave to try and slow down the train.’”
The train stopped in time and other travelers helped pull the woman to safety. Palacios said his training took over during the rescue.
