INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 27, 2015) — A teenager who pulled into a car wash parking lot to pick up a paycheck hit and killed a 2-year-old child Sunday in what police are calling an accident.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, Indianapolis Metropolitan police received a report of a child struck and killed on the city’s west side in the 5400 block of West 38th Street. Officers arrived at Always Shining Hand Car Wash to find a car had struck a 2-year-old girl.

Police said the 17-year-old driver saw a group of small children playing and waved for them to pass. He thought they’d cleared the area when he pulled through, but hit the little girl. The victim is the daughter of the car wash’s owner, police said.
